The League Education and Treatment Center - The Healing Power of Learning
The League School and the Joan Fenichel Therapeutic Nursery are the children’s components of the League Education and Treatment Center which has been committed to improving the lives of children and adults with psychiatric and developmental disabilities for over 65 years. The agency services over 500 individuals, 250 of whom are children between the ages of 3 and 21. Due to their significant behavioral and/or mental health challenges, these students have been unable to receive educational services within the public sector.
The children’s programs at LETC are one of the few fully integrated NYS approved and licensed day treatment schools that combine educational and mental health services throughout the school day. The task of educating these highly dysregulated students to their highest intellectual, educational and vocational ability, in light of their emotional and behavioral challenges, can be a daunting task. However, using a unique individualized interdisciplinary approach we have been successful in helping students develop the skills needed to move to less restrictive educational settings.
